Most of us lead hectic, fast-paced lives, so, understandably, we might try to rush our meals. But eating fast does us no favors. When we eat too quickly, we eat more than we need, leading to poor digestion, weight gain, and lower satisfaction from eating.

Knowing Users

To quickly and accurately provide users with a recipe plan, Smaller Spoon will ask users about their diet control and food preferences.

Prior Choice

Users can choose the food they want to eat in advance. At the same time, users can shorten the preparation time they need to cook by editing the taste and time attributes of the recipe.

Eating Guide

Smaller Spoon will help users slowly develop the habit of slow eating by providing action guidelines.  After eating, users can view recent eating records to understand the progress of their behavior changes.

Let's take a look at the process!
Medical Research

Why eating slowly is important?

1. Sensing Satisfaction
It takes about twenty minutes from the start of a meal for the brain to send out satiety signals. Most people’s meals don’t even last that long.

2. Improved Digestion
Eating slowly also helps our digestion. Slow eaters consumed fewer ounces per minute than fast eaters.

3. Better Hydration
According to reports from the University of Rhode Island, eating slowly will increase water consumption during meals.

User Persona

Chen

(foodie, busy, male)

“I used to eat fast, and my busy life doesn’t allow me to slow down.”

As a busy user, Chen needs a detailed schedule for organizing his every single day. He doesn’t know the benefit of slow eating and does not believe in himself. Chen feels finding interests is essential for his first try. He thinks that he wants his personal and easy way of changing his eating speed. Chen can use a mobile phone to check his schedule and eating speed on the application.

Layla always feels terrible when she overeats; she wants to have reasonable control over how much she eats. She thinks losing weight as a goal gives her enough motivation, but she still needs a more exciting way. Layla is always using a mobile phone to check some benefits and exciting training methods on the application.

User Journey

Guidance and time are the main issues to be solved.

Pain Point Analysis

Authentic Eating Experience

The product should allow people to slow down through the guidance of products while maintaining an authentic eating experience.

Design
Tableware Design

"Smaller Spoon" is a symbol of slow eating.

The idea of a smaller spoon is to encourage people to reduce the amount of meal per mouthful. Smaller spoons eventually slow down people's eating speed by increasing people's access to food.

Bowl, Plate, Cup

The "Smaller Spoon" and other products are auxiliary products of the "Smaller Spoon" application. These products help new users slow down their diet but do not fundamentally help people develop slow eating habits. People need to eventually expand the practice of slow eating by returning to ordinary tableware.
